Industry Challenges & Our Silicone Solutions
Renowned for safety and durability, silicone is steadily cementing its position as a key material in the home goods sector. Yet, rapid industry growth has been accompanied by mounting challenges, including escalating cost pressures, product commoditization, consumer trust deficits, and increasingly stringent regulatory frameworks.Looking ahead, industry leadership will no longer be determined by sheer production volume, but rather by excellence in quality assurance, technological innovation, and brand differentiation.OTI is always make best to offer proper solutions when new challenges.
Yellowing and Odor
- Challenge: Under prolonged exposure to light and elevated temperatures, conventional silicone is prone to surface yellowing and aesthetic degradation. Additionally, residual odors in certain products can trigger consumer skepticism regarding material safety.
- Solution: OTI offers multi-pronged approach to improve these issues, adopting a platinum-catalyzed vulcanization system in place of conventional peroxide-based curing; incorporating anti-yellowing additives; utilizing fumed silicone materials; implementing a post-curing process; and selecting ovens with superior exhaust airflow to ensure thorough removal of volatile residues.
Product homogenization
- Challenge :Silicone products are highly susceptible to design imitation and appearance plagiarism due to their relatively simple molding processes. Furthermore, pure silicone inherently lacks rigidity, which poses functional challenges when manufacturing items like spatulas and tableware that require adequate structural stiffness.
- Solution :OTI provides a one-stop, turnkey service from design to mass production, eliminating outsourcing risks and ensuring full control over intellectual property throughout the entire process. In addition, its proprietary overmolding technology enables seamless bonding between silicone and a wide range of substrates, including plastics, metals, and more. This delivers finished products that retain the soft-touch feel of silicone while benefiting from the structural strength of rigid materials.
Material cost & Regulations
- Challenge :The household goods silicone sector faces dual pressure: rising material costs driven by volatile petrochemical and platinum catalyst prices, and tightening global food-contact regulations with stricter limits on hazardous substances. These demand higher-purity materials, tighter process controls, and comprehensive testing—all adding hidden compliance costs.
- Solution :OTI has established a stable, diversified raw material supply system anchored by core suppliers—WACKER from Germany and Wynca Tinyo from China—effectively mitigating price fluctuation risks. Suppliers are now progressively developing and promoting non-secondary vulcanization materials, which effectively control VOC content without post-mold baking while complying with FDA and LFGB standards. This innovation ensures regulatory compliance while significantly reducing the energy and time costs of secondary vulcanization. For conventional products using non-post-curing materials, OTI applies a rigorous secondary vulcanization process that equally achieves effective VOC control and ensures finished product compliance. Additionally, OTI has established comprehensive in-house VOC testing standards and independent testing capabilities, enabling timely and precise verification of VOC indicators throughout R&D and production, thus providing full-process quality and compliance assurance.

FAQ
A:Yes. We can provide FDA, LFGB and RoHS certificates.
Yes, we have professional in-house testing facilities to support VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) testing. We conduct these tests on cup components on a weekly basis. In the meantime, we will also send samples to third-party accredited laboratories on a regular basis for independent verification, ensuring that our test results are reliable and fully aligned with international regulatory requirements.
Food-grade silicone has a standard operating range from -40°C to 230°C, with short-term tolerance up to 260°C. It is safe for oven and microwave use, but should never be used empty, exposed to open flames, or placed directly on stovetop heating elements.
You can choose Anti-static agents at the compounding stage, then product will be significantly reduced volume resistivity. In addition,PU coating, UV treatment and Parylene coating can be applied to further enhance performance.
Silicone can be overmolded with many materials like plastic, metal, magnets, glass and FPC.
Multi-color options can be achieved through either flow molding or overmolding. Alternatively, we can also apply printing or painting on the surface, provided that the product does not come into direct contact with the mouth.
