Industry Challenges & Our Silicone Solutions
The maternity and baby market has entered an era defined by quality nurturing, even as the number of newborns continues to decline. Today’s new-generation parents place a premium on product ingredients and safety, driving a clear upgrade in market demand for reliable, high-standard care. While maternity and baby products, which are designed specifically for pregnant women and infants, have seen widespread innovation and production in response to economic growth and evolving consumer needs, this rapid development has also given rise to a range of new challenges. As a professional manufacturer in the field of silicone and liquid silicone, OTI offers robust solutions to effectively address these industry challenges, ensuring both safety and performance in maternity and infant applications.
Safety
- Challenges :Safety comes first—especially when it comes to infants .Many baby products made from conventional plastics have been found to contain harmful substances such as BPA, phthalates, and other plasticizers. Since baby items often require frequent sterilization through boiling or steam, not all materials can withstand high temperatures. Repeated exposure to heat can cause some products to release toxic chemicals, become deformed, or turn yellow over time. This endangers both baby health and product durability .
- Solution:Silicone is biologically inert and free of BPA, making it an ideal material for pacifiers and baby bottles. It is odorless and tasteless, so it won't interfere with a baby's acceptance of breast milk. As a soft elastomer, silicone is durable and resistant to cracking, which minimizes the risk of generating micro plastics-eliminating safety concerns over accidental ingestion of small fragments. In addition, silicone offers excellent heat resistance and can withstand repeated boiling water and steam disinfection without degrading. Its resistance to aging ensures long-term hygiene and cost-effectiveness.
Cleanability and Durability
- Challenge:End users frequently complain about the cleaning difficulty and poor durability of baby and maternity products. Plastic or cloth items tend to trap milk stains and leftover food residue, which can promote mold growth and easily absorb odors. Moreover, the plastic materials are often hard and bristled, making them unfriendly to babies' delicate gums and prone to breaking. As a result, these products require frequent replacement in a short period, leading to a poor repurchase experience and overall customer dissatisfaction.
- Solution:The dense, non-porous surface of silicone resists the absorption of milk stains, oil, and odors. Its waterproof and oil-repellent properties allow for easy cleaning and it resists mold growth. Most components are produced through seamless liquid silicone rubber (LSR) injection molding, which eliminates gaps and reduces the risk of dirt and grime buildup. With adjustable hardness ranging from Shore A 10 to Shore A 80, silicone is gentle on gums yet tough enough to withstand chewing. Its outstanding tear and temperature resistance further enhance durability, ensuring a significantly longer product lifespan.
Designability & Distinctiveness
- Challenge:Traditional materials cannot deliver soft-hard combination, complex shapes, or multi-texture surfaces that modern products demand. Numerous parts and seams not only create hard to clean crevices that harbor bacteria but also complicate assembly and quality assurance. On top of that, the market is flooded with visually indistinguishable maternity and baby products, leading to a serious lack of differentiation and consumer choice.
- Solution:Silicone is highly customizable. It is available in multiple colors and hardness levels, all moldable into a single part. It can also be designed with complex surfaces and various textures. Through overmolding, hard plastic and silicone are combined to deliver multifunctional performance that a single material alone cannot achieve. This capability will help expand the product portfolio and build a complete series tailored for maternity and baby care. As a result, silicone is becoming the premium material of choice for maternity and baby products, enhancing product differentiation and helping offerings stand out in the market.

FAQ
We can provideFDA,LFGB,REACH, and RoHS certifications.
Yes, we have professional testing facilities to support VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) testing. We conduct these tests on cup components every week.
Multi-color options can be achieved through either flow molding or overmolding. Alternatively, we can also apply printing or painting on the surface, provided that the product does not come into direct contact with the baby's mouth.
Yes,both flow molding and overmolding are capable of producing varying hardness levels. Overmolding offers the advantage of pinpointing hardness at exact locations on the part. In contrast, flow molding can only guarantee the specified hardness at the intended location, as the dividing line is not consistently fixed.
We will recommend you the proper material according to your requirement and specific purpose .Samples by different materials are also available for test if required .
This process is ideal for simpler designs. And if minor dimensional tolerances are acceptable during the trial run, we can offer compression molding with liquid silicone as a flexible alternative.
